About the book: 2016 / The true story of Tibor "Teddy" Rubin - a victim of the Holocaust and a hero of the Korean War, awarded the Medal of Honor. In 1944, a thirteen-year-old Hungarian boy named Tibor Rubin was captured by the Nazis and sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp. After the war ended, he managed to escape from the camp alive, and, having survived the Holocaust, he arrived penniless in America, barely speaking English. Five years later, in 1950, Tibor volunteered for military service in the US Army to fight in the Korean War. Tibor was captured, where, thanks to his experience in the camp, Mauthausen was able to save his comrades from death. He was able to return from Korea only in 1953, but it took more than half a century to recognize the services of a Jewish immigrant to his second fatherland as going beyond the call of duty.
