MediaDB / «Luftwaffe aces, Fw 190 pilots on the Western Front" S. Ivanov: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2001 / The RAF command gleaned the first information about the appearance of a new type of German fighter in the air from the reports of its fighter pilots. In September 1941, many pilots began to report collisions with single-engine aircraft equipped with air-cooled engines. The pilots mistakenly identified them as French Block-151 fighters or American Curtiss Hawk-75s. Accustomed to the superiority of their fighters, the British could not believe that the Luftwaffe could have an aircraft better than the RAF fighters. Doubts were finally dispelled on October 13, 1941. On this day, a Spitfire pilot from the 129th squadron of the RAF photographed a mysterious aircraft with a photo-machine gun. The intelligence department of the British Air Force established: this is the newest Focke-Wulf Fw-190 fighter.
