About the book: 1994 / Two boys spending their summer holidays in a village not far from Veliky Novgorod, passing through an abandoned underground passage, find themselves in Ancient Rus'. Exciting adventures await them there: they are captured, study at the medieval School at the Yuriev Monastery, escape from pursuit and even meet Prince Alexander, the future Alexander Nevsky, right on the eve of the battle that made him famous. The heroes of the book learn a lot about the life of our ancestors: what kind of houses they lived in, how they dressed, what they ate, how they studied, what they played and, most importantly, how they talked - after all, without knowing the basics of the Old Russian language, the boys would not have been able to survive in the past. The second part of this unusual book is a grammar that introduces the reader to the Old Russian alphabet, sounds, parts of speech and rules of the Old Russian language.
