MediaDB / «The Son of an Accordionist" by Bernardo Achaga: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2006 / Bernardo Achaga (present, name - Joseba Irazu Garmendia) is the strongest voice of modern Basque literature. His novel "The Son of an Accordionist" was met with great attention, and not only in the writer’s homeland - in three years it was translated into 18 languages. Here again, as in his stories and in Achagi’s book “Inhabitants of the Country of Obaba” (1988), the theme of a disappearing world is heard. Like the legendary Macondo from “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by García Márquez, for the young man, the protagonist of the novel, the village of Obaba is a small homeland, the center of everything bright and romantic. But, like any paradise, this one is lost to him. He will never again see fluttering butterflies with delicate Basque names. A randomly found list of those executed, a diary from the times of the Civil War and General Franco, a treacherous act of the father - and ordinary life comes to an end. Music, lectures, dates are replaced by leaflets and explosions. The young man takes the side of those who advocate Basque autonomy, future members of ETA.
