Of the twenty-three thousand tales recorded and stored in the Israeli Folklore Archives, two hundred and two were selected that most clearly reflect the centuries-old collective memory of the Jewish people. This publication not only reconstructs the folklore traditions of Jewish communities around the world and represents the cultural heritage of the Jewish people in its diversity and originality, but also describes it from a scientific perspective: fairy tales are provided with comments that allow you to understand cultural, historical, ethnographic realities, trace the history of the existence and development of the plots , themes and images both in the context of regional cultural characteristics and in interaction with world literature. The first volume includes tales of the Sephardim, whose ancestors were expelled at the end of the 15th century. from the Iberian Peninsula and settled in Italy, North Africa, Turkey and the Balkans.
