About the book: 2005 / The author, together with other German scientists and specialists, lived and worked on the small island of Gorodomlya, strictly fenced off from the outside world, on Lake Seliger. German scientists and guided missile specialists were sent there in the fall of 1946 from the Soviet zone of occupation of Germany. Werner Albring describes the adventure-rich events of that time. This documentary material reveals pages of modern history that were little-known until recently. Life in Gorodomlya had its own specific routine, but German scientists and technicians were not limited to work. All of them were fairly educated and cultured people, and the free time of their narrow community was filled with hobbies: there were two competing theater troupes, literary and philosophical circles. Werner Albring drew, painted and acted in the theater. Despite the fact that only a small piece of Russia was available to the Germans for viewing, walks in the surrounding area were strictly limited and freedom of movement was out of the question, he was deeply impressed by the Russian landscape…
