About the book: year / The Church Fathers constantly emphasize the redemptive meaning of the Incarnation. They define both the cause and effect of the Incarnation as the redemption of man and his return to the original state lost after the Fall. He who became incarnate abolished and blotted out the sins of mankind; only He, possessing both Divine and human nature, could do this. On the other hand, it cannot be argued that the Fathers of the Church considered salvation the only reason for the Incarnation, that is, they believed that if man had not sinned, the Incarnation would not have occurred at all. Since the question is the original cause of the Incarnation in the era of the Fathers was not directly discussed, most of the texts used in later disputes do not give any direct indications. And it seems that the only one of the Fathers who really touched on this problem - although in a different context than the medieval Western theologians - was St. Maximus the Confessor (580–662). Maximus the Confessor strongly asserts that the Incarnation is the first and absolute goal of Creation.
