About the book: 2017 / This book tells how relationships were built in a peasant family, how they got married and divorced, how they raised children. What were everyday life like, attitudes towards religion, housing arrangement, ideas about hygiene. What was a purely female ritual? What was considered a woman’s personal property in the courtyard property, what role did she play in the peasant community, and why did “women’s riots” happen? And also about the intimate life of a peasant woman, the “caresses” of her father-in-law legalized by custom, prostitution and female crime, and public punishments of the guilty by the entire community. The cruel truth is revealed to the reader, and it is sometimes difficult to perceive it, but it is also impossible not to know it. Vladimir Bezgin relies exclusively on documents: along with ethnographic sources, the book uses a wide range of archival materials, first introduced into scientific circulation.
