About the book: 2017 / I. Ilf and E. Petrov completed the novel “The Twelve Chairs” in 1928, but even before the first publication the censors significantly reduced , “cleaned” it. Editing continued from edition to edition for another ten years. As a result, the book was shrunk by almost a third. The currently published version, the first complete one, has been reconstructed from archival materials. The book is equipped with an extensive historical, literary and real-life commentary.
