About the book: 2021 / This book is the last in the work of Jose de Jesus Martinez and one of dozens written by different authors about the legendary Panamanian "General of the Poor" Omar Torrijos Herrera , who achieved from the United States through negotiations and without firing a shot the return of sovereignty over the Panama Canal to Panama. The author of the book is a Marxist philosopher, known in Latin America both as a poet and as a writer, for 7 years he was the personal bodyguard of this national leader of the country, who was trying to build a fair and dynamically developing society based on human dignity, independence and social justice. Written in the style of memoirs, interspersed with philosophical reflections about man, his place in history from the perspective of historical materialism and dialectics. The publication of the book is timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the still not fully investigated plane crash in which Omar Torrijos and several people accompanying him died on July 31, 1981 in Panama.
