The authors - historians of medicine - draw information from a huge array of sources of various types: medical books, chronicles, lives of saints and even book miniatures, which allowed them to highlight completely different - and still controversial - issues of the development of ancient Russian medicine. The book talks about the use of medical knowledge in Kievan Rus, about monastic medicine, about Indian healing in Ancient Rus', about medieval surgery, about the organization of medicine. Emphasizing the original features and certain originality of Russian medicine, the authors at the same time show the international nature of its development.
