About the book: year / "In the Lands of the Sun" is a work by the Russian symbolist poet, translator and essayist K. D. Balmont (1867–1942). The book was written in 1905. In the subtitle the author puts: “Letters to a private person from a trip around the world.” This is epistolary prose of an outstanding symbolist poet, a poetic narrative about his journey to Mexico. “January 31, 1905. Approaching Corunna... I feel, I begin to feel the spell of the Ocean. Today, the big fish, delighted by the excitement of our ship, staged a chase-dance: they rhythmically threw themselves out of the sea, chased us like dolphins, and again went into the depths. Yesterday before night the fog rose like a mountain range. I have never seen such a cloudy mountain. Now phosphorescent lights are shining from the waves. The wide sound of the waves frees the soul. If only it would open up completely, the immense expanse of the Ocean. I’m waiting,” this is how the author constructs the narrative in the form of diaries. It seemed to him that in the countries of the Sun he had found truly happy people. The poet translated traditions, legends and fairy tales of the peoples of different countries into Russian. Balmont also wrote the following works: “Where is my home?”, “Burning buildings. Lyrics of the modern soul", "Firebird. Slav's flute", "Glow of Dawn", "Green Vertograd».
