About the book: 2011 / The book presents eleven biographies of hetmans who were the military and political leaders of Ukraine in the 17th – 18th centuries. By getting to know their fate, the Russian reader will be able to discover little-known and forgotten pages of Ukrainian history. Glory and tragedy, courage and treachery, outstanding talent and the protection of fortune were miraculously mixed in the lives of these people. They were very different, and each of them had a chance to leave their mark on the history of the Ukrainian Hetmanate. However, remembering them, we better understand that complex, contradictory, but heroic time, shrouded in an aura of romance.
