About the book: 1970 / Juozas Požera is a Lithuanian writer, journalist, who first appeared in print in the early sixties with essays and stories about the Lithuanian village. Then his collection of short stories “I See Horses” and the novel “My Judgment” appeared. Yu. Pozhera gained great popularity with his essays. The writer traveled a lot in the Far North of the Soviet Union, visited the Evenks, Nenets, Tofalars, Mountain Shoria, Tuva, and Kamchatka. Several collections of essays about northern peoples were compiled: “The Day of the White Sun” (1966), “I Have No Other Sorrow” (1967) and “Northern Sketches” (1969), which are included in this book.
