About the book: 2024 / "The Tale of Balzhin-Khatan" (Balzhan Khatanai tuuzha domog) is a monument of pre-revolutionary Buryat literature, the time of its creation, judging by everything dates back to the 19th century. This is the only work of Buryat literature known to us, created in the spirit of medieval Mongolian stories about remarkable historical figures. The main character of this story is the legendary leader of the Khori-Buryats, who led their migration from Mongolia during a period of civil strife and, as they say in oral traditions and chronicles, died, sacrificing herself for the freedom of the Khori people. While the chronicles are focused on describing the migration of the Khorin people, the “Tale” is dedicated to an earlier event - the wedding of Balzhin-Khatan, and its death and the history of the Khori-Buryats are covered here very briefly (apparently, the author expected that the reader was already familiar with these legends).
