About the book: 2013 / Russian translation of the essay "The Political and Military Life of Napoleon" was made from the famous work of Jomini, published in Paris in 1827, — “Vie politique et militaire de Napoleon, racontée par lui-même au tribunal de César, d'Alexandre et de Frédéric” (“The political and military life of Napoleon, told by him before the court of Caesar, Alexander and Frederick”). For this work, Jomini chose the form of the story that Napoleon tells about his campaigns. This first-person narrative is undoubtedly based on the work of E. O. de Las Casa, Napoleon’s secretary, who recorded his thoughts and memories on the island of St. Helena, published in 1822–1823. under the name "Mémorial de Sainte-Hélène" ("Memorial of Saint Helena»).
