The translation offered to the attention of readers was made from the second edition (2003), in which takes into account the experience of the NATO operation in Yugoslavia in 1999. The book talks about the “paradoxical” (dialectical) logic that underlies strategic thinking. Four levels of strategy are discussed: technology, tactics, operational art, theater strategy, and grand strategy. The author analyzes wars of a new type - “post-heroic wars”, generated by the fear of losses and the desire to avoid them at all costs. The author's ideas are supported by many historical examples. In China, the book is used as a teaching aid for military academy students. Attached is an article about the geostrategic position of modern China.
