Borges himself admired his stories, in which the place of man is on the distant periphery of the universal scheme of things, and supermundane forces instill sacred horror in the souls of the unwary. This collection includes three cycles of stories and stories written according to Lovecraft's patterns and in the Lovecraft universe by his friend, student and first publisher August Derleth. Most of them have been translated for the first time, the rest are published either in new translations or in a new, carefully verified edition.
