  • MediaDB / «How it was done in Leningrad. Censorship in the years of thaw, stagnation and perestroika" Arlen Blum: download fb2, read online

About the book: 2005 / The book continues the author’s work on the history of censorship under a totalitarian regime, published in 1994 and 2000. This time we are talking about the last period, which took almost forty years, ending with the collapse of the Glavlit system. Based on the richest archival material, which became available to researchers for the first time, the mechanism and results of the suppression of thought and speech in book publishing, bookselling and librarianship, in the field of literature and art were recreated. Much attention is paid to the topic of censorship repressions directed by Glavlit and the KGB against the books of writers of the Russian diaspora, as well as the literature of the Leningrad underground. Primary attention is paid to the actions of the controlling repressive bodies in Leningrad in the 1950s-1980s, but the impressive picture created in the book of the activities, and then the gradual destruction and decline of censorship authorities was, apart from the shades of local color, the same for the entire country.
