The history of the holiday is April 12, 1961. Soviet test pilot Yuri Gagarin launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on the Vostok-1 spacecraft and made the first orbital flight of our planet. The flight lasted 108 minutes. After this flight, Yuri Gagarin was awarded the title of Hero of the USSR.
