About the book: 2019 / There is no place on earth more beautiful than Milchenburg. For several centuries now, delicious chocolate has been brewed on the left bank, and delicious waffles have been baked on the right bank. The rivalry between “waffle makers” and “chocolate makers” is a long-standing tradition, and all residents – half-jokingly, half-seriously – observe it. But one day a stranger appeared on the “waffle” shore. A talented teacher, Dorothea Nansen quickly charmed the schoolchildren. Just a few lessons and the teenagers will be unrecognizable. Now they are the Warriors of the Iron Fist: energetic, focused, purposeful. They walk in step to the beat of drums, their hearts beat in unison... But any warrior needs an enemy. And the confrontation between the confectioners ceases to be comic, and it becomes increasingly dangerous for young Julie to cross the bridge to her beloved Jean-Jacques... Krapivinsky Prize winner Pavel Vereshchagin in the novel “Recipe for a War” recreates the life of the fictional Milchenburg in the smallest detail, making the city seem completely real, and its inhabitants - our good friends. It is all the more terrible to watch how gymnastics turns into marching, and rivalry into war. And the experiences of Julie and Jean-Jacques will seem familiar to a high school-age reader: in the same way, lovers recognized themselves in Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Henry and Blessed Margaret. As events develop, the author's observations intensify the reader's amazement, and the novel turns into a wise parable. The heroes of the "Teenager N" series are close to readers from 13 years old. The characters in these books sometimes realize with interest, sometimes with joy, and sometimes with horror: the world is much more complicated than it seemed to them in childhood. And in this complexity there are new opportunities and new discoveries.
