The chief director of the famous Milan theater, master and darling of fame, learns that the technical staff of his theater is staging in their spare time the same play that once won him success. Wounded pride, jealousy, etc. they immediately make themselves known. Some similarity with Bulgakov’s “Theatrical Novel” is apparently explained by the similarity of the backstage atmosphere at all latitudes.
