Emelyanov, the author of more than twenty books and four hundred publications on the history of Russia and the world, talks about various stages and turns in the life of N.S. Khrushchev: about how, in the turbulent years of the two revolutions of 1917 and the Civil War, a young mechanic became a party leader, how a former Trotskyist became famous for his struggle with the Trotskyists and other oppositionists, as a freshman at the Industrial Academy 10 years later became a member of the Politburo, as he participated in the construction of the Moscow metro and in mass repressions in Moscow and Ukraine. It also talks about Khrushchev’s contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, his role in restoring devastated Ukraine and developing its agriculture, returning to Moscow and becoming one of the leading leaders of the USSR. This is the first part of a dilogy about Khrushchev. The second is “Khrushchev. Troublemaker in the Kremlin." Both books were published by the Veche publishing house in 2005 and have already become a bibliographic rarity.
