The last - third - volume is entirely devoted to the modern history of France, the historical processes of the next fifty years - the history of the Third Republic between the two world wars, the difficult years of the Second World War and the turbulent events of the post-war years - France of the fourth and fifth republics, the role of France in the modern world.
