Pitovranov, who was called up for the security service from the graduation course of MIIT (Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers) during the end of Yezhov’s repressions. At the age of 28, having received the rank of general and heading the regional department of the NKVD, he subsequently headed the counterintelligence of the USSR. He participated in complex operations to combat German agents during the Great Patriotic War and the nationalist underground after it, often risking his life. The book reveals some details of the activities of the "Firm" residency.
