Kargalova talks about outstanding commanders of the era of formation and strengthening of Moscow Rus', governors of the late 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Moscow governors replaced the commander-princes on the battlefields under the “sovereign of all Rus'” Ivan III Vasilyevich and carried out their historical mission of defending and expanding the Russian state until the time of Peter the Great, until the creation of the Russian regular army, when they were replaced by new military ranks - field marshals and generals. Many of the Moscow governors - Daniil Shchenya, Mikhail Vorotynsky, Mikhail Skopin-Shuisky, Grigory Romodanovsky - are unknown or little known to the general public.
