A cheerful comedy about love in a lumberjack village lost in the Urals not only captivated audiences throughout the Soviet Union, but also received several prestigious prizes at foreign film festivals. The story “Girls,” however, differs in many ways from the famous picture: the characters’ characters are revealed more deeply, the harsh life in a distant village is shown much more realistically, and even in the plot there are significant differences. In addition to the story “Girls,” Boris Bedny wrote many stories (some of them were filmed), as well as the story “Big Stream” (1952).
