About the book: 1840 / Pavlin Nolansky the Merciful (c. 353-June 22, 431) - Bishop of Nola (409/411-431), saint. Memory in the Orthodox Church - January 23, Art. St. Peacock was born in the vicinity of Bordeaux in the family of a Roman senator. He was Melania the Elder's cousin. Peacock received a good scientific education and was elected to the Roman senators, then became consul and, finally, in 381, governor of the Campania region in Italy. In 394 in Barcelona he was ordained a priest. Then, together with his wife, they founded a monastic community of strict ascetic life in Nola. In 409 or 411, with popular rejoicing, he was elected Bishop of Nolan. Humanity and compassion for all the poor and needy were the hallmarks of his character. Saint Paulinus is known both as a temple builder and a Christian poet. Died on June 22, 431 at the age of 78. The saint was buried in Nola in front of a large crowd of people. His relics are kept in Rome, in the Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. It is believed that Saint Paulinus was the founder of the tradition of bell ringing.
