About the book: 1971 / The Memorable Life of the Maid Clarissa Garlov (eng. Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady) - an epistolary novel by Samuel Richardson, written in 1748. Created in the genre of a family-domestic moral-descriptive novel of education. Moral duty in the person of Clarissa is contrasted with Lovelace's unscrupulousness: Clarissa is kind and moral, Lovelace is a cynic and an egoist; She is the victim, he is the predator. Both are opposite concepts of man. Richardson traces the complex development of their relationship. Thanks to the extreme popularity of the novel, the surname Lovelace acquired a figurative meaning - womanizer, seducer, charming red tape, etc. About this edition: This edition was based on a version distributed on the Internet with old Russian spelling. In it, thousands of words were replaced by their modern form, the structure of the FB2 file was brought into a more correct and logical form, footnotes were formatted and a cover was added. Nevertheless, old words and typos still exist, not to mention the fact that this translation itself is incomplete, so further work on the text is very welcome.
