MediaDB / «Nun. Nephew of Ramo. Jacques the Fatalist and His Master" by Denis Diderot, G. Jarho: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2024 / Young Suzanne is forced against her will to take monastic vows and enter a monastery. To her horror, a pure and sincerely believing girl understands that cruelty, malice and despotism reign within the walls of the holy monastery and only a few nuns devote their lives to sincere service to the Lord. Unable to tolerate such a situation, Suzanne decides to gain freedom at any cost. Due to a pronounced anti-clerical attitude, the novel “The Nun” was not published during the author’s lifetime - the book was published ten years after Diderot’s death, at the height of the French Revolution. The public appreciated the work, and “The Nun” deservedly took its place among the best works of the writer. This edition also included the novels “Ramo’s Nephew” and “The Jacques-Fatalist and His Master.” Both works were also published after the author’s death and reflected Diderot’s philosophical views and his dislike of the immorality, cynicism and selfishness of contemporary French society.
