About the book: 2023 / Tears are a universal theme for all world cultures, but attitudes towards them may be different. The manifestation of emotions depends on historical and social circumstances, is expressed and assessed in the interrelation of many factors of individual and collective experience - tradition, ideology, boundaries of coercion and freedom. The authors of the collection “Through Tears” - including Konstantin Bogdanov, Svetlana Adonyeva, Oleg Lekmanov and others - try to answer several important questions about Russian emotional culture. How specific is it in its historical and social transformations? How does her “tearfulness” manifest itself? And what does this knowledge give us - in a retrospective assessment of the past, in concerns about the present and hopes for the future? The collection is compiled based on materials from a conference held in November 2022 at the Institute of Literary Literature (Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the publishing house “New Literary Review”».
