About the book: 1976 / In the summer of 1924 in Bolshevo near Moscow on the initiative of F. E Dzerzhinsky, a labor commune of former offenders was organized. By the end of its existence, the commune consisted of more than 4,000 pupils. On his first visit to the commune, M. Gorky wrote in the visitors’ book: “I sincerely testify: an amazing, deeply important work has been created here.” About his former life, about coming to the commune, about work and study in it, about the process of re-education in an intelligible and entertaining way say former Bolshevo residents, many of whom subsequently received higher education, work long and fruitfully for the benefit of society.
