About the book: 1956 / One of the most interesting works about the great painter of the 17th century is the novel "Rembrandt" (1935), written by the famous Dutch writer Thein de Vries. Creating a novel about Rembrandt, Thein de Vries did not set himself the task of giving a comprehensive picture of the life and work of the brilliant son of his people. The writer set out to create an image of Rembrandt - an honest and uncompromising man; therefore, bypassing the period of youth, success, happy love, he turns to the most complex and difficult period in the life of an artist, when the work of an already mature, established master comes into conflict with the demands of a bourgeois society that has lost its democratic traditions. In this conflict, despite the blows of fate, Rembrandt the man remains true to himself, to his humanistic ideals, to which he devoted his entire life and all his art to the end. This is how Rembrandt was, this is how he appears on the pages of the novel by Thein de Vries.
