About the book: 1981 / "The Fifth Mata" is a collection of prose writer Pyotr Eremeev, consisting of a novella and four short stories. It tells about the heroic work of Soviet people in the rear during the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, as well as about our contemporaries. The setting of the story, which gives the title to the entire collection, is a taiga village on the banks of the wayward Chulym. Local workers float special timber suitable for aircraft construction. This is not an easy matter. But the author is interested not so much in the events and exoticism of the taiga region, but in people, strong characters, who, even in the rear, in incredibly difficult conditions, helped forge the great cause of Victory.
