About the book: 2023 / Professor of physics at the University of Dorpat Georg Friedrich Parrot (1767–1852) went down in history not only as a scientist , but also as an interlocutor and friend of Emperor Alexander I. Their correspondence is a rare example of confidential friendship between an autocratic ruler and his subject, sincerely interested in progressive changes in the country. Alexander I, in response to his boundless devotion, trusted Parrott with important state secrets - for example, he shared his intention to grant Russia a constitution or discussed the fate of Speransky, accused of treason. The book by historian A. Andreev for the first time introduces into scientific circulation the surviving texts of over 200 letters translated into Russian, with detailed comments and annotated indexes. The publication of the letters is preceded by a large historical study dedicated to the relationship between Alexander I and Parrot, as well as the mysterious fate of their correspondence, which allows us to take a fresh look at the history of Russia at the beginning of the 19th century. Andrey Andreev – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Russian History of the 19th century - early 20th century, Faculty of History, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
