About the book: 1999 / Georgy Chulkov - a famous poet and prose writer, literary and theater critic, publisher of the Russian classical heritage, memoirist - for a long time belonged to the number of unfairly forgotten and writers of pre-revolutionary Russia almost erased from the literary history. In parallel with the Decembrist theme, serious Pushkin studies interests are developing in Chulkov’s activities, implemented in dozens of articles, publications, and reviews dedicated to Pushkin. The book “The Life of Pushkin,” dedicated to the centenary of the death of the poet, was not greeted with enthusiasm by critics, noting its methodological imperfections, but nevertheless it played an important role and turned out to be very useful for the further development of Russian Pushkin studies.
