About the book: 2010 / Ivan Ulyanovich Basargin (1930–1976), a wonderful original Siberian writer, despite his short life, managed to leave a noticeable mark on Russian literature. Already his first major work, the novel “Wild Bees,” became an event in the Soviet literary environment. First of all, because the author turned not to the ideologies of socialist reality, but to the true history of the development and settlement of the Siberian region by pioneers. The main characters of the novel are the descendants of the Old Believers who went to the wilds of Sikhote-Alin in search of a calm and happy life. And when the new Soviet government came to them with its strict ideological guidelines, people opposed this and stood up to defend their small homeland. It was precisely because of the true story about the tragedy of the suppression of the Old Believer rebellion in the late 1930s that the novel “Wild Bees” was never published during the writer’s lifetime, and was released only in 1989.
